Waddles forward for the first 4 turns, then starts using knife for ~10000 damage (capped to 9999). Uses a special, even more powerful attack against aeons. Until he gets to the front row, he will counter all attacks/spells/stealing/etc. with Karma, which appears to deal damage equal to 100 times the number of fiends killed by that charcter.
The high damage of Karma makes this a quick and easy way to gain a lot of sphere levels using Stoic/Comrade overdrive modes, Overdrive->AP, and Auto-Phoenix. It's not hard to get over 100,000 AP from one battle for 3 characters (more if you've also got abilities to increase your Overdrive or AP rate).

Defeating Don Tonberry
Do not attack him untill he makes all of his 4 waddles. keep pressing Triangle manytimes untill he is in front of you. Cast Hastga on everyone and use quick hit. The best way is to have either Auron or Tidus using quick hit and only hasting one of them. For who ever you picked, Make everyone else use 'Guard' whenever they can and keep using quick hit. If some one dies revive them. I suggest Auto-Pheonix. Keep repeating this motion untill all 480000HP is gone.

Defeating Don Tonberry Cont.
Bring atleast 20-30 Pheonix Downs(or more if the person using quick hit cannot deal 9000 or more damage).

quik ap and stealing
get the person you want to train the most (this person will be doing the attacking) goto besaid and kill monsters with the person you want to train the most (the other two people who you want to train dont need to do anything) do this for about an hour that leaves an average of 330 kills times 100 equals 33,000 more ap per attack, the people who you want to train that arent attacking need overdrive mode to comerade and weapons with overdrive to ap,they will heal the attacker also) in total you will need 30 doors to tommarow ( from ultima weapon or monster arena) the person who attacks will be on stoic with overdrive to ap, to easily steal get rikku to steal because she get that many kills ( only does 3k damage to my rikku when i steal) or you can just use mug if your training titus, auron, or wakka (i did this for 3 hours and got 112000 ap per shot taken so i got 560,000 ap for my party...)im srry i like to brag
