This monster occasionally uses an attack called Eraser which petrifies a character--and it doesn't seem to be resistable even with Stoneproof armor. As petrification is incurable underwater, I recommend killing him quickly.

Killing Shinryu
If you're trying to farm him for Wings to Discovery, the only practical way to do it appears to be to have at least one character wielding a celestial weapon and power-leveled to the point of being able to hit reliably for 99,999 damage, preferably using Quick Attack (Shinryu counter-attacks, so use other characters to heal him.)
The Don Tonberry can be exploited to level your characters quickly if necessary (if you have Overdrive->AP and Auto-Phoenix).

Using Wakka's overdrive "Attack Reels" two times will finish him off.
Using entrust to load up wakka's overdrive.

Easy Win Strategy
This boss has a crappy move called eraser, as such, you cannot take your time with him. Stick Tidus on comrade overdrive, and then have Wakka and Rikku attack him, this will keep Tidus' overdrive guage full. Your other alternative is Wakka's overdrive, but his weapon is more time consuming to complete.

He's weak Guys
First of all his eraser move will only activate if you have 2-3 people so you have to solo or kill with 2 attack reals.
Or 2 blitz aces. Use over drive warrior or stoic. Have at least 180 str and 140 def or u will die plus have auto-life, haste and protect and regen(optional)
I can kill ham in three minutes with these stats but now i have max and only take like 1 min. I hape this helps.

i agree. I take him out just by using hastaga and then just unloading on him using quick hit and he dose not even get to his turn and that is only in just 2 or 3 minuets while if using overdrives it is faster to it would take me most times less that a minuet.
