I'm not sure if this has been posted on GameFaqs or somewhere else but, I haven't seen anyone post this little trick up anywhere not even on Google. I know about this because I literally played the S** out of FF7 and its my fave of all time. So here goes.
OK, well you can get Aqualung from a couple enemies. Dr. Slice, great site by the way, listed Jenova-Life, Harpy, and Serpent. Jenova-life is a one time deal boss, and Serpent is way later in the game in the sunken Air Ship. So, that leaves Harpy as the best chance to get it.
You CAN encounter Harpy (the Chimera looking monster) in the DESERT of Corel Prison, but once your done the Corel Prison story, you can't go back, UNLESS you have that Dune Buggy car thing. But once you get past that, no more desert part EVER. So what do you do??? Here's the trick.
Equip the CHOCOBO LURE materia and walk on the CHOCOBO TRACKS near the desert. Its across the river opposite of GONGAGA. During fights *WITH CHOCOBOS* you WILL encounter Harpy's. It may not be every encounter, but you WILL encounter them. Try different track patterns if he doesn't appear. Assuming you already have the manipulate materia, you'll be able to manipulate Harpy and get Aqualung. Be careful though! Early in the game Aqualung might kill your team if your at a low level. Thats how you get Aqualung early in the game....hope this helps!
